I am excited to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year! We remain totally dedicated to the success of your children and look forward to your continued support this year. We are an award-winning school that puts safety first. In addition to an instructional program that was recognized by the Arizona Department of Education as “exemplary” in 2020, Laveen Elementary has also been named a 2022 A+ School of Excellence by the Arizona Educational Foundation, a 2022 National School of Distinction by the Association for Middle Level Education and rated “A” by the Arizona Department of Education. We are proud of our students and staff that work so hard each day!

Laveen Elementary School is a “Character Strong School.” Our Character Strong program focuses on nine character traits throughout the year: empathy, respect, cooperation, responsibility, courage, perseverance, gratitude, honesty and creativity. Our character education program is approved by the Arizona Department of Education and is taught in all classrooms, PreK – 8th grade. We encourage students to be “the best versions of themselves.”

We also maintain a mindfulness component that focuses on developing mental and emotional strength in children. As our students become more mindful, they develop the knowledge and attitudes needed to thrive in a world of increasing complexity, uncertainty, and exponential change. Our mindful school component was recognized as the “Program of the Year” in 2018 by winning the Arizona School Board Association’s Golden Bell Award.

Parents are encouraged to monitor student progress by logging into our online gradebook through the parent portal on our district website at www.laveeneld.org. If you are new to ParentVUE, your activation code will be/was provided to you at Meet the Teacher Night on August 3 or you can visit our front office if you have misplaced it.

All students will be given a new ID badge, plastic holder, and lanyard on the first day of school. Students are expected to wear their ID each day as part of their school uniform. An ID is required to enter onto campus, eat lunch in the cafeteria, ride the bus, and check-out library books.

In regards to student attendance, please remember that students are expected to be at school each day, unless they are ill. We also ask that you schedule all appointments outside of the school day, to avoid classroom disruptions and missed instruction.

Do not forget that each Friday is “Spirit Wear Friday” and school spirit wear may be worn as part of the school uniform. Spirit wear is available at www.laveenspiritwear.com.

Thank you for your continued support of your child’s education and please contact me or our front office if we can ever be of assistance.

Go Hawks!

Sincerely,

Melissa Garcia, Principal

Why choose Laveen Elementary?

LEARN

Laveen Elementary School is a “mindful school,” named a 2019 Exemplary Title 1 School by the Arizona Department of Education and awarded the 2018 Arizona School Board’s Golden Bell Award for the most promising school program of the year.

Mindfulness is about developing mental and emotional strength in children. As our students become more mindful, they develop the knowledge and attitudes needed to thrive in a world of increasing complexity, uncertainty, and exponential change. Laveen Elementary School strives to educate and empower all of its students to do their personal best by making responsible choices that positively affect their mind, body and spirit.

Components of the Laveen mindfulness program include: weekly yoga sessions before school for students and families, teachers trained in mindful breathing techniques, a mindful “reset room” for students, and school counselors trained by mindfulschools.org. In addition, “Second Step,” a social-emotional learning program equipped to help children thrive, is offered at all grade levels each week.

At Laveen Elementary School we inspire growth and maturity from the “inside out” by cultivating awareness, resilience and compassionate action.
